Tips to Win Your Fantasy Football League.

Football. A sport you can never play professionally, but find yourself screaming every Sunday "I could have made that kick", or "You have to catch that ball, c'mon". Many of these errors have a cascading effect, especially on your fantasy football team.

How I Started Playing Fantasy Football

I have been a football fan ever since I could remember, but only started playing fantasy when I was in grade 10. The idea came from one of my friends who was also into football and played football on the same team as me. The first year participating I finished first with no money on the line. The second year I did not fair so well, but came top two. What I'm trying to say is that the following tips can help you gain bragging rights over your friends, and possibly win some money. I won $500 in a league I was in this past fall with 11 other people from work. Alright, enough about me let's win you some money. A full list of fantasy football websites is found here.

1. Draft the Best Available Player in the First Two Rounds

Regardless of position you should draft the best available player in the first round of your draft. Teams can be carried by one, two, or three really good players and be supported by a mediocre cast. Every fantasy football draft website assigns an ADP (average draft position) to each player. I personally do not agree with many of the ADP's assigned to some players, but ESPN and Yahoo fantasy have the best ADP's for each player. Below is a picture of where you can find the player's ADP and choose the best player available in the first two rounds. Another popular strategy is to draft two running backs (RB) with your first two picks. I like this strategy too, and I'll tell you why. The RB position lacks depth. There is an enormous drop off of potential, skill, and durability after the top 8 RB's are taken which is why I also suggest to stack up on RB talent. Fast. Running back is also a position that is most likely to score you points and win your matchups. This wins fantasy football championships.

2. Play the Waiver Wire Every Week

The waiver wire is where teams can pick up and add various players who went unclaimed after the draft. Check out the official definition. EVERY year a player goes un-drafted and then breaks out in their respective offence and helps carry a fantasy football team to the finals and win. For example this year, James Robinson the running back for the Jacksonville Jaguars went un-drafted in the majority of leagues because not many people knew him, he's a rookie and had not proved himself to be a threat/asset on teams. Robinson has been a stud. Scoring over 17 points each week he will be the reason many fantasy football teams win. Back to my point. You have to be searching the waiver wire for these breakout players every single week. This will build depth on your team, and help you win your fantasy football league. Many rookies emerge to be stars and go un-drafted. You have to be the person to take some risks, and add these players to your team.

3. Buy Low, Sell High

Many players only have one or two high scoring weeks. These weeks are most likely an anomaly. If you took a chance on a player and they had an AMAZING week scoring two touchdowns, 10 receptions for 150 yards and the starter is injured that week ... trade that player faster than you can say "Blueberry Pancakes". Chances are that player only had a good week because the guy who was starting in front of them wasn't playing, thus leading to an increase in targets, yards, and receptions. Trade these guys for an appropriate value if they gain interest from less experience players who have not read this blog. Also, sometimes you'll trade a player thinking this was his only spectacular week and that happens. You'll look like this picture of Philip Rivers, but hey, you can't predict the future. You're just trying your best to win your fantasy football league and win some cold hard cash.

Overall, take my advice with a grain of salt. These tricks have helped me make the fantasy football playoffs the past 6 years in a row. If you follow these tips your chances of winning the fantasy football league this year are increased. That's a guarantee (not really). Also, if you were lost during this blog check out the video below for information regarding the basics of what fantasy football is and how it works. Now, go out there and get rich! If you have any questions, comments or concerns do not hesitate to contact me with trade proposals, waiver wire adds, anything. Go to the red button at the top of the website and click "Contact". I will be more than happy to help you win your fantasy football competition and become an absolute legend.
